TDS meters that measure total dissolved solids (TDS) levels in water highlight the need to use clean water in our homes.
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) refers to the total amount of substances in the water other than the pure H2O. The only true way of measuring TDS is to evaporate the water and weigh what’s left. Since this is near impossible to do for the average person, is it possible to estimate the TDS level by measuring the EC (electrical charge) of the water.
Pure H20 has virtually zero conductivity. This means the higher the number on the read-out of your TDS meter the less pure the water is. The less pure it is the more harmful it is. The more harmful it is the less we should drink it.
Far better to clean it first and then drink it afterwards. The mose effective way to clan water is with a evices for reverse osmosis (RO) water filters and water purification system. These can cost thousands, or the same unit may cost only hundreds when purchasing it from Pure Refelction.
We have noted that pure wather (H2O) has a ZERO (0) TDS reading. Yet the water that comes out of a tap has a high TDS results in undesirable taste which could be salty, bitter, or metallic. It could also indicate the presence of toxic minerals. The EPA's rescommended maximum of TDS in water is 500mg/L (500ppm).
If you live in a hard water area, you may wish to add a RO unit to your complete water system. High TDS indicates Hard water, which causes scale buildup in pipes and valves, inhibiting performance.
Reverse osmosis (RO) works by forcing water under great pressure against a semi-permeable membrane that allows water molecules to pass through while excluding most contaminants. RO is the most thorough method of large-scale water purification available. If the water is then passed through a Water is passed between a De-ionisation (DI) unit which is made up of positive electrode and a negative electrode. Ion selective membranes allow the positive ions to separate from the water toward the negative electrode and the negative ions toward the positive electrode. High purity de-ionised water results. The water is usually passed through a reverse osmosis unit first to remove non-ionic organic contaminants. This water is the rated as ZERO TDS.
